Kolors was born out of community, donuts, and a deep commitment to creating opportunity where it’s needed most. What started as The Donut Trap—a neighborhood venture serving vegan donuts with a side of culture and connection—quickly grew into more than a bakery. While serving our community, we began mentoring and employing low-income youth, helping them develop real-world skills in retail, customer service, and entrepreneurship.
As those young people grew, so did the vision. Adults in our community began turning to us for the same kind of workforce development support: training, guidance, and opportunities to build financial independence. What began as cashier and retail training expanded into broader pathways—equipping people with the skills, confidence, and networks to thrive in a rapidly changing economy.
That evolution led to Kolors. Today, Kolors is an education and workforce development platform designed to empower BIPOC, queer, and historically excluded communities through accessible training, licensing, and career pathways. From real estate licensing to IT and bookkeeping, we build bridges into industries that provide not just jobs, but careers with longevity and impact.
At its heart, Kolors remains rooted in the same values that began with The Donut Trap: community first, access for all, and creating vibrant pathways where people can step into their power and build a future on their own terms.
